A Holy Flag

An alternative flag to the State of Israel, which reflects the religious mindset that has been taking place in the State of Israel in recent years. The design is a quote from the religious tallit. This work was done as part of a group exhibition “70 Flags” on the occasion of 70 years of independence for the State of Israel, in which each designer is required to devote his or her personal attention to the state flag.

 

70 שנה אחרי הקמתה, וזו לא ישראל, זו מדינת יהודה. הרעיון הציוני שנוסח אי אז להקים בית עבור העם היהודי, שובש ועוות, ונדמה שהיום ישראל איננה רק בית רק עבור יהודים, אלא עבור דתיים. אי שם, בין תמימות לנאיביות, דגלה הרשמי של מדינת ישראל נוסח ועוצב כציטוט, כהד, לטלית היהודית. 70 שנה אחרי, ונדמה שהנבואה התגשמה.

דגל הטלית שיצרתי בא לשקף את הלך הרוח של ישראל היום, מדינה שספוגה בתוך תהליכי ההדתה, ההתחרדות וכפייה חוקתית על בסיס ערכי הדת. זהו לא דגל של תקווה או אופטימיות עתידית, זהו דגל, שלצערי, משקף מציאות. מציאות שבה אתה נדרש להיות קודם כל יהודי דתי, ואחר כך ישראלי. הפוליטיקה הישראלית, שיצקה את הקשר ההרמטי של דת ומדינה, שהפכה את ישראל למדינה של דת.

במסגרת תערוכה קבוצית “70 דגלים” לרגל 70 שנות עצמאות למדינת ישראל, נדרשו מעצבים ויוצרים שונים לתת פרשנות אישית לדגל המדינה. אני יצרתי דגל חלופי למדינת ישראל, המשקף את הלך הרוח הדתי המתחולל במדינת ישראל בשנים האחרונות. העיצוב למעשה מצטט את הטלית הדתית.
